Review of Undergraduate Computer Science (RUCS) looking for new Editor-In-Chief!

Featuring the best of research conducted by DCS students, the Review of Undergraduate Computer Science (RUCS, rucs.ca) is the first publication, from a top 20 university, dedicated solely to
undergraduate computer science. DCS is currently looking for a talented student to take over RUCS as editor-in-chief. Under the supervision of Professor S. Toueg, the selected candidate will manage the release of the fourth annual edition of RUCS in November 2018.

Requirements:

  • strong reading comprehension and writing skills
  • understanding of what constitutes good writing style
  • prior experience as an editor or writer is an asset
  • prior experience managing and directing small teams is an asset
  • proficiency in LATEX is an asset
  • enrolment in a CS program is an asset, but not mandatory

Responsibilities:

  • hire a team of editors and designers to put together the 2017 issue
  • review and edit 10-20 extended abstracts (at 800 – 950 words each) on CS
  • research done by undergraduate students
  • administrative tasks

If interested, please send a transcript (unofficial is fine), resume, a 50 - 150 word statement indicating why you are interested, and a recent sample of your writing to rucs@cs.toronto.edu by the end of July 15th, 2018. Include “RUCS Editor-in-Chief Application” in the subject line. The writing sample should be no longer than 500 words and can be a standalone piece or an excerpt (please provide some context). Preference will be given to candidates who are in Toronto this summer, though others are encouraged to apply as well.
