The following volunteer opportunity (for those ages 18-24) with the City of Toronto (Enhanced Youth Spaces) may be of
interest to you:
Work with the City’s Design & Technology Advisory Committee and learn about the following in a practical
and hands-on way:
We focus on 4 areas of learning including, public speaking, creativity, leadership and experience. This is a great opportunity for students to practice what they learn in school by actually developing and implementing an app for all 11
Enhanced Youth Spaces and designing performance tracking systems for the staff.
They will have an opportunity to meet management and network as well as connecting directly with City of Toronto’s IT department.
Participants can expect to learn:
Consumer needs (Primary & Secondary research)
Preparing, delivering and coordinating presentations and related workshops and events
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of IT divisional business processes, policies, standards, procedures and guidelines designing, developing, customizing, delivering and evaluating technology training programs
Work closely with City of Toronto’s IT team to develop, design and implement software systems for staff
Work closely with the City’s IT team to create an app for our clients
Learn how to conduct a training needs assessment
Learn how to Assess the impact of new technology on end-users and recommend and/or implement appropriate training solutions
Review current technologies in place and develop recommendations for improvements
Work with staff and client groups to assess needs and monitor, evaluate and implement changes
Become prepared for IT jobs at the City of Toronto
Participants can expect to receive a certificate of program competition to add to their resume
Participant can expect to network with management and present their work throughout the program to management and City Councillors
We take 20 participants per cohort on a first come first serve basis.
Logistics:
Once a month meetings on Fridays
at 6:30pm-8:30pm (monthly meetings total up to 3-4 hours max) starting February 17, 2017.
Location: City Hall
Duration: 12 sessions (over one year)
This program is very hands on and practical so participants can understand field work, make connections and become career ready!
