CS-Can Student Symposium

The 1st annual CS-Can Student Symposium is taking place on June 2nd-4th, 2019 at McGill University, Montreal! It’s not too late to register to see our series of distinguish, CS-Can award-winning keynote speakers: Dr. Selim G. Akl, Dr. Andrea Bunt and Dr. Julie Nutini! In addition to student poster presentations, a student social (Laser Quest) and a community mixer, the Symposium will also feature three workshops dedicated to resolving challenges facing the CS Community: Diversity & Representation of Underrepresented Groups in Computer Science, Best practices for Reproducibility in CS Research and The Impact of CS on Climate Change!

There is also still room for more lightning pitches, and SPAC (Student and Postdoc Advisory Committee) encourages everyone attending the Symposium to pitch an idea they’re passionate about to introduce themselves!

Student and Postdoc Advisory Committee (SPAC) Election

Computer Science Canada (CS-Can | Info-Can) is accepting nominations for enthusiastic, hard-working students and postdocs to fill vacancies on the SPAC (Student and Postdoc Advisory Committee). Any student (graduate or undergraduate) or postdoc attending a Canadian University is eligible for nomination. There are several different positions open in this year’s election: Secretary, Postdoctoral Fellow Representative, Graduate Representative, Indigenous Representative, and up to three Members at Large.

Why run for SPAC? By joining SPAC, you can be the voice of computer science students in Canada. Since CS-Can is a still a new organization in its formative years, now is an exciting time to join SPAC, where you can turn your idea on how to benefit the Canadian CS student community into a reality.

Nominations can be made through this form. Self nominations are accepted.

The Canadian Undergraduate Computer Science Conference

The Canadian Undergraduate Computer Science Conference (CUCSC) brings together the brightest STEM students from across the country. This unique event connects undergraduate students with titans of industry and academia. This year, for the first time, the CUCSC is being held at the University of Windsor from July 25th-27th. Not only will accepted submissions be published in conference proceedings, but there will be an exciting lineup of insightful speakers, portfolio building workshops, and thought-provoking panels. Any student who is interested in networking with companies like Google, Quicken Loans, GitHub and Green Shield, participating in research, or who simply has a great idea, shouldn’t miss this annual opportunity to showcase their talents. Get your early bird tickets now before prices increase and submit your work here.

CS-Can Student Travel Awards

SPAC is now accepting applications for the new CS-Can Student Travel Awards. These awards are designed to support students traveling to event complimentary to, but not normally a part of, their degree program. Any student attending a Canadian university is eligible to apply. Preference will be given to students who are presenting at CS-Can-related events, and events based in Canada.

SPAC’s mission is to foster and represent the community of Canadian Computer Science post-secondary students and postdoctoral fellows.
