Junior or Student Web Designer/Developer
About Us:
Academic + Campus Events (ACE) has the mandate of stewardship of classroom and event management at the University of Toronto. We are looking for a talented and self-motivated individual to join us. The incumbent should have web design and programming knowledge, as well as some graphic/3D design background. As part of our design and technology team, you’ll be instrumental in how the world (online) sees the UofT learning environments.
Jobs and professional experience:
The successful candidate will work with the Classroom Design & Development team to review, revise, redesign, develop, and manage the existing overall online and web presence of the University of Toronto’s Academic & Campus Events department’s Transforming the Instructional Landscape initiative (https://ace.utoronto.ca/TIL/)
Duties to include:
- Work with ACE Design and Development team to develop webpage layout, including executing all visual design stages from concept to engineering.
- Conceptualize original website design ideas to ensure user content is clear and accessible.
- Create storyboards, user flows, and site maps to communicate interaction and design ideas.
- Update content as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills Required:
- Pursuing Degree majoring in Computer Science / Engineering or an education background in any combination of: web design, programming, graphic design, interior design, architecture…etc.
- Proficiency in standard web development and visual design software.
- Understanding of current web trends, techniques, and technologies.
- Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively.
- Able to work as part of a team collaborating and contributing to ensure success of overall and individual goals.
- Python scripting
- Knowledge of PHP is an asset
- Knowledge of design software such as Adobe CS, AutoCAD, Sketchup…etc. is an asset but not a requirement.

- How to build a departmental website as an important campus-wide virtual web communication tool, and as a digital communication platform for inter-departmental collaboration.
- How to participate in project meetings and design workshops to present ideas
- Understand ACE mandate and help communicate the message to a broader audience through virtual tools such as website and social media
- Using Design Thinking process to collect and understand instructor / student feedback.
