The Engineering Outreach Office (EOO) manages and administers the core outreach programs offered by the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto. We act as the central unit for outreach activities promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education to a wide audience. The Da Vinci Engineering Enrichment Program (DEEP) is an academically rigorous program offered by the EOO that nurtures highly motivated grade 9 to 12 students from all over the world who excel in math and science. DEEP is the one of the most diverse pre-university programs in North America. DEEP courses are taught by U of T Engineering graduate students and recent alumni and take students beyond the traditional secondary school curriculum.

What Does a Counsellor Do?
Fostering a sense of community, engagement, inclusivity and acceptance among all DEEP participants, DEEP staff, DEEP instructors and specialists.
Assisting instructors and specialists in classes; preparing materials and handouts; monitoring and tracking attendance.
Supporting DEEP students during academic hours, after-class activities, course field trips, and excursions.
Acting as an ambassador of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering and the University of Toronto.
Engaging with DEEP instructors, specialists and the Engineering Outreach team, DEEP counsellors will have the opportunity to lead activities both in and out of the classroom.

We are looking for individuals who are:

  • Current undergraduate student at the University of Toronto
  • Enjoy interacting with youth
  • Have an interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math)
  • Apply their knowledge to daily life
  • Able to generate interest and enthusiasm
  • Technological aptitude
  • Team players
  • Excellent communicators
  • Flexible with respect to their time management
  • Able to work with people from other cultures / backgrounds
  • Knowledgeable in another language, especially Turkish, Spanish, or Korean, is an asset

All counsellors will be required to attend operations as well as curriculum, teaching and learning training. Counsellors are required to have completed WHMIS safety training and to have obtained a Police Clearance Letter prior to the program start date.

Program runs from mid June to mid August. Counsellors can commit to as many weeks that fit into their schedule and request placement in courses that they are passionate about! You can reach us at academic@engineeringoutreach.ca
