Science for Peace forum with Jack Poulsen

The University of Toronto Science for Peace Student Group is an organization that seeks to understand and act against the forces that make for militarism, environmental destruction, and social injustice here and abroad. The goal is to promote peace through taking action and bringing awareness about current global issues. We are holding a forum on Friday November 16th, from 2:00-4:30PM at the George Ignatieff Theatre, 15 Devonshire Place. Admission is free. Keynote speaker Ray Acheson recently accepted the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize for an anti-nuclear coalition.

Jack Poulsen, an ex-Googler, will be talking about ethical accountability in major tech companies. He has worked to research machine learning at google, where he was focused on improving the accuracy of the company’s search engine. He recently quit due to ethical differences with the company. Now he is part of a growing movement in the tech industry advocating for more transparency, oversight, and accountability for the systems they build.

Drop in to listen to our speakers or to find out how you can personally contribute to issues facing the world.
