Research Assistant Position
Professor Arthur Blouin at Department of Economics is looking for a Research Assistant who has computer science experience.
About the Project: The context is that we are trying to draw maps (almost) entirely from the structure of words in dictionaries. The problem is mostly a very large simultaneous equations problem, but also involves some simple machine learning, and we would like a student who is familiar with these techniques.
The goal is to use language use information from HathiTrust to date the usage of different words, and use this date information to track the evolution of languages in space over time.
The work would be paid at $20/hr and would be an ongoing research assistantship (approximately 3 months with the possibility of extension), to begin immediately.
If anyone feels like they would be a good fit, and would like to apply, please contact Arthur Blouin at a.blouin@utoronto.ca.
Application deadline is December 15, 2017
