Computer Vision / Machine Learning / Software Engineer

Needed:

Expert problem solver with programming & scripting skills for our spectacularly awesome product – more on that later. Will provide a bar fridge for either stocking cold brew, and access to some of the top minds in the Toronto startup scene. Yes, we are serious. Are you?

Us:

We are Xesto, a recently funded early stage high-tech start-up based in Toronto. We focus on computer vision problems – we make it easy, quick and accurate to integrate hand tracking and gesture control into applications. We aim to provide developers a device agnostic platform to create, record and store their custom gestures.

We are looking for students in the Computer Science space (or a similar technical field), with a strong background in software engineering and / or computer vision and / or machine learning to play an integral role in the development of Xesto.

Why Xesto?

Xesto is making sci-fi a reality. We are solving problems beyond the gesture recognition and hand tracking our website states.

We are in the early stages of development and want you to join the team, joining in the product development stage. You will hold an integral role in the development, testing and deployment of Xesto.

Everyone at Xesto is actively involved in deciding what to build next, and brings their perspective to feature prioritization. You will work in a scrum-based agile development cycle. Since you are joining in the beginning, you will have great visibility into the building of Xesto.

Some of your responsibilities:

  • Design and modify software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design.
  • Architect and deploy computer vision and machine learning algorithms
  • Design and execute experiments, collect and analyze test data to guide launch decisions
  • Analyze a wide variety of data: structured and unstructured, observational and experimental, with the goal of influencing system designs and implementations
  • Develop moderately complex software in C, C++, C#, Java, assembly language, or other selected languages for Xesto’s compatibility
  • Analyze user needs and software requirements to develop implementations within time and cost constraints
  • Participate in development team sprints as the mechanism of determining iterative scope, deliverable, and commitments including specific tasks and research direction

Xesto is early-stage, we are looking for someone who can:

  • Jump in headfirst and tackle challenges, and not be afraid to make mistakes
  • Be a fast learner
  • Make decisions on implementation, refactoring, bug fixes
  • Apply general programming skills to new problems
  • Explore new technologies/approaches/methods
  • Investigate design challenges to improve effectiveness and optimization
  • Innovate in a small, collaborative team
  • Research and develop new products using leading-edge platforms
  • Bring energy, enthusiasm, and a desire to learn how to build a world-class software platform
  • A strong sense of connecting technical work to product impacts
  • Be a great communicator with the ability to break down complicated theories or algorithms
  • Experienced or open to working on holding themselves and peers accountable for shared commitments
  • Be comfortable and thrive in a start-up environment

Requirements:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math or another relevant technical field
  • Expertise in statistics, machine learning, optimization, and/or building data products
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts: regression and classification, clustering, feature selection, feature engineering, curse of dimensionality, bias-variance tradeoff, neural networks, SVMs, etc.
  • Knowledge of a statistical computing language such as Python/pandas
  • Experience with: Software Design, Software Debugging, Software Documentation, Software Testing
